West Ham United ? The Takeover
September 1st, 2006 by Wez SaundersHmmm, now I didn?t see that coming (cough, cough)! Reports suggest that the Tevez-Mascherano business has ?nothing to do with a takeover bid? yet seems ironic that the mastermind behind the ?exploratory bid? is none other than Kia Joorabchian and MSI. Whilst of course this is unofficial, as the official Reuters/Bloomberg messages do not mention the ?bidder?, you can clearly read between the lines. This is the statement released on the Stock Exchange earlier this afternoon:
?”The Board confirms that it has had exploratory discussions in relation to a possible bid but these discussions are at a very early stage and there can be no certainty that an offer for West Ham will be forthcoming,” it said.
“The Board also confirms that there is no contractual link between the signing of the players and the bid discussions,” it added.
Fair enough. However, I tend to slightly disagree with the boards statement. I think MSI?s intention has always been to take over West Ham United Football Club, and after all Kia Joorabchian is a well known West Ham fan.
Personally, I will be watching this space with extreme attention to detail, and in turn ensure that all avenues and alleyways are reported right here on State of the Game.

Good quote from Joorabchian yesterday from BBC Sport:
But MSI investor Kia Joorabchian told BBC Radio Five Live on Thursday: “MSI is a company that will not invest in European football as such by investing in a club, so that speculation is out for sure.”
Does this muddy the waters further?

Maybe Kia has parted company with MSI?

I’m pretty sure Kia Joorabchian has said he’s an Arsenal fan.
Undoubtedly this is linked to the transfers, but it’ll be another entity or consortium and not MSI.

You’re right to be sceptical Wez, but there’s no reason why there has to be a contractual link between the transfers and the any take over bid is there?
I do see the world through claret and blue goggles, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that Joorabchian is a West Ham fan with business nouse and large amounts of money to invest.
Even if the players are being ‘parked’ as some suggest, awaiting a move to a bigger club, at least they’re being parked in my club and not one of our rivals. Can’t wait to see them in claret and blue.
Well done to the West Ham board and managment. I can still scarcely believe it!
