Pearce Wants A Sack Window - I’ll Bet He Does

October 28th, 2006 by Alan Hylands

I’m somewhat less than amazed that it’s a manager with a record of only three wins in his last twenty matches in all competitions is getting a little twitchy when the annual sack race begins to hot up but with Stuart Pearce calling for a “sack window” aren’t managers getting a little ridiculous in their attempts to save themselves from the axe?

Last I heard becoming a football manager wasn’t a mandatory life or death situation, there is no football manager draft where poor unfortunates are picked out of a lottery machine on a Friday evening and have to take their camelskin coat to a random ground around the country the next afternoon to endure the punishment of 90 minutes on a bench or standing in a technical area and picking up a large wedge of cash into the bargain.

The simple fact of the matter is that Pearce is getting frightened because he’s in a job with a “hire ‘em/fire ‘em” mentality if success isn’t immediately found and he, along with a plethora of current Premiership managers, are finding that getting a big management job and holding onto it are two different things. Simple answer for Mr. Pearce - forget about trying to safeguard your job with some ridiculous invention like a sack window and instead concentrate on your team and how to motivate yet another squad of overpaid primadonna Premiership footballers who, regardless of their talent or performances on the pitch, will pick up more in a week than most fans earn in a year. The problem lies with the players Stuart, nohing else. If you think it’s harsh earning a million pounds a year as a football manager and then getting the sack after a year or two for bad results then think about the people who have busted their guts in factories all around the UK for years and then get paid off with a few months pay that wouldn’t satisfy the likes of you in a week.

I’m sick of hearing hard luck stories from professional footballers and managers, get on with it or get out of the game into the real world but please give it a rest about how tough things are for you. We’re tired of listening.
