Arte Et Labore Et Hughes: Strength In Numbers At Ewood Park

November 10th, 2006 by Chris Lockwood

The last few games have told us something; we are in desperate need of cover in certain positions in our squad!

Tugay is on magnificent form but he can?t run the midfield on his own, which is basically what he has been doing in the absence of Robbie Savage and Steven Reid! Mark Hughes said that Aaron Mokoena would be the first name on his team sheet in a five a side game, but he just isn?t making the cut in centre midfield this season! We miss Reid attacking from midfield and we miss Sav?s battling spirit and never say die attitude! This is why in January we MUST find adequate back up for out centre midfielders!

In Michael Gray I think we have one of the worst left backs in the Premiership. He gives a lot of effort but effort alone isn?t good enough when you are slow, can?t tackle and can?t use the ball wisely! Big Dominic Matteo isn?t good enough and McEveley needs more time to be ready for first team football, but he definitly looks like he will be a Premiership player in the foreseeable future. I?m praying for a speedy recovery for Emerton so Lucas Neill can go back to being our stand in left back! Add a left back to Santa?s list.

In the centre of defense we have seen Khizanishvili and Ooijer form a half decent partnership. I think we will survive without Ryan Nelsen until Christmas?just, and once Emerton returns from his injury, we will have our excellent right hand side of the park back!

A massive team effort is needed on Saturday against United if we are to come away with anything from the game! At the minute we do not have enough midfielders to play our boring but effective 4-5-1 formation, so my gut feeling is that Manchester United will remove the Ewood Park monkey from their back that has seen them winless at Ewood this century! Here?s hoping Bentley, and Rio Ferdinand can repeat their respective performances from last season?s Premier League clash at Ewood Park.
