Dark Days At The Emirates Stadium?
December 15th, 2006 by Cathy ThompsonA new home, a new prospect of a fulfilling season ahead of them, the news of their captain staying, August really didn’t look a bad month at all for the Arsenal faithful. Now as we draw to the end of this current year it seems that the optimism at outset of the season has been severely dented. From lacklustre performances in the premiership, to a manager who refuses to criticise his team and exalts how well they play even when the fans realise it was a below par performance, to a manager who gets riled when another manager celebrates his team scoring.
A team sitting in third position at this stage should probably be happy but if Arsenal fans are honest with themselves they must be feeling frustrated. Ten points behind Chelsea and fifteen behind runaway leaders United has to leave a bitter taste in their mouths. It just seems that the Gunners have been outclassed this season and except for a victory over bitter rivals Spurs they have had little to smile about.
This coupled with the fact that the FA have hit Arsene Wenger with a ?10,000 fine and warned him over any future improper conduct for his touchline antics with ex-West Ham boss Alan Pardew just adds to their woes. Arsene clashed with Pardew as the West Ham manager celebrated Marlon Harewood’s 89th minute winner last month and then refused to shake hands after the match. Wenger has said regarding the incident “I got fined severely. I’m not happy with it but I said I regret it and I was over-reacting so I accept the fine”.
The Gunners must be starting to wish for the new year and a new hope of salvaging something from their season. But with Arsene finally admitting that he was in the wrong it may be that he has turned over a new leaf, next thing you know he will be admitting that he does see incidents on the pitch and that sometimes his players do give away penalties. I won’t hold my breath though.

i think your living in a dream world we play by far the best footbal in the league, your right about dropping pionts but you need to look at the injurys we have had, we’ve been field a under 23 back four wich no other side could do and to be quite honest there not bad, but not as consistant as the reguler starting defence.
also you got to understand that last year we had to critcal goal assisting players leav arsenal robert pires and dennis bergkamp. and replacing them is far from a easy task unless your chelsea who have a fortune to spend and we havent after just biulding a new stadium.
manchester utd are the most consistant side this year but i believe chelsea will stumbule and arsenal will take second.
which is good enough for these younger players to gain exsperiance for a title challange next year.
you can hardley class wenger’s outbust and fine as a woe. he probabley earns that in a couple of days.
and id rather himas a manger all day then the self obsessed moriniho,
