State of the Game - A Fresh New Look For 2007

Wednesday, December 6th, 2006

Maybe we’re a little early but we’ve given the site a new look for the impending New Year as we look to get back to our roots and focus on blogging more on SOTG next year. There’s so much going on in football every day that it’s hard to keep up with it some times but in future we’re planning on getting our views over on even more of the big talking points that are cropping up and enticing more of you lurkers to sign up for the forums and take the chat onto a new level on there.

Any bugs in the new design please let us know.

Where Do Spurs And Jol Go From Here?

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I think I’ve calmed down sufficiently from my Tourette’s-esque attack in the pub on Saturday lunchtime to objectively view what went wrong and see where (if anywhere) this Spurs squad can go now. Apologies to those who will shout out the usual kneejerk put downs and “but we’re successful, we finished fifth last year” platitudes. For my response to those go see the From The Lane messageboard, I’m sure I’ve had my say as has everyone else in that regard.

I’ll get Graham Poll out of the way first. Shockingly (well, it should be shocking) inept performance from England’s supposed top referee yet again. I laughed when the Chelsea fans went mad a few weeks ago after he “helped” Spurs turn them over at the Lane but the smile was wiped right off my face three times on Saturday. Admittedly the assistant referee is mainly to blame for the first goal when he failed to see Chimbonda step out just in time to catch Adebayor offside but that’s the chance you take with a tight offside system and we were caught out.

Lee on the ball, right hand edge of the Arsenal area, he beats his man and cross to the near post. Lehman goes to collect, spills, Berbatov?? GGOOOAAALLLL!

That?s how it should have went instead, about an hour into the game and Spurs 2-0 down it went like this

Lee on the ball, right hand edge of the Arsenal area, he beats his man and cross to the near post. Lehman goes to collect, spills and comfortably collects because Berbatov cannot be bothered to even chase in the cross.
