Look at it this way. His wages & transfer add up to £11.5m over the 3 years. Or about what Newcastle will pay in transfer fee alone for a decent defender before the transfer window closes. Lucas Neill is simply fighting his corner - there are so many queueing up to put the boot in it's ridiculous. The truth is that there are a lot of people out there who can't accept the fact that for the first time in the club's history, we have owners who have serious chequebook and they're prepared to flex it. Yes, of course, LN has been influenced by the money on the table, but he's not exactly joining MK Dons. He's joining a great club with a long tradition, 27,000 or so season ticket holders, a decent if underperforming squad and an outside chance of staying up. I don't feel like I'm being mugged over, I'm cautiously pleased that we've managed to recruit yet another half decent player in the transfer window when I didn't think we'd recruit any in our situation.
